COMMERCE, TX. | Grambling State women's soccer battled throughout Thursday night's road match but came up just short in a 2-1 loss to the East Texas A&M Lions at Lion Soccer Field.
With the result, Grambling moves to 2-2-1 on the season while East Texas A&M improves to 2-2.
The Lions struck first in the 25th minute when Mya Mitchell converted a penalty kick to give East Texas A&M a 1-0 lead.
Grambling responded less than a minute later, as
Alana Aiken finished a pass from
Chloe Bryant to level the score at 1-1.
Both teams created chances in the first half, with Grambling firing eight shots and East Texas A&M attempting 10 however neither side could break the deadlock before halftime.
The second half remained tightly contested until the 81st minute, when Hannah Bell connected on a shot to push East Texas A&M back in front.
Grambling pressed for an equalizer in the closing minutes generating several looks at goal, but were unable to find a breakthrough.

Kaia Bace collected three saves.
The Grambling back line held the Lions to just five shots on goal, with the late strike proving decisive.
