STARKVILLE, Miss. | The Grambling State University volleyball team came up short in both of its matches at the Mississippi State Tournament on Saturday.
The Tigers fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-19) to Mississippi State in the second game of the day after dropping its opener 3-0 (25-6, 25-15, 25-19) to North Alabama inside the Newell-Grissom Building.
Match 1 - University of North Alabama
Grambling State (0-2) showed resilience after a tough opening set, but North Alabama (1-0) used a balanced offensive attack and strong defense to secure the sweep.
Kenya Lucas and
Amaris Marks paced the Lady Tigers with four kills apiece. Marks also added one service ace and a block, while
Ra'Niya Brown chipped in a block of her own. Setter
Alayna Howard directed the offense with seven assists, while libero
Leisey Kelii led the back row with 10 digs.
For UNA, Jenna Kolosta led all players with eight kills. Kinslee McGowan tallied 25 assists and six digs. Amelia Keating powered the Lions at the net with six blocks, and Ava Martindale added a match-high 11 digs.
Match 2 - Mississippi State University
Grambling State (0-3) dropped its final match of the Mississippi State Tournament, falling 3-0 to the Bulldogs (2-0).
Kenya Lucas led the Lady Tigers with 12 kills, while
Reece Cook tallied 16 assists and
Leisey Kelii posted 11 digs.
