GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University volleyball team dropped its home match to Nicholls State on Tuesday evening, falling in three sets inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center, 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-23).

The Lady Tigers (0-4) showed fight throughout the match, highlighted by a spirited third set where they hit .296 with 13 kills on 27 attempts. 

Despite the late push, Nicholls was able to hold on and close out the win.

Denver Watkins led the way for Grambling State with nine kills and an ace.

Ra'Niya Brown followed with six kills and a team-high four blocks. 

In the back row, Leisey Keli'i anchored the defense with a team-best 11 digs and added one ace. 

Alayna Howard directed the offense with 13 assists and chipped in eight digs, while Reece Cook added 11 assists and seven digs.



HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Grambling opened with early kills from Denver Watkins and Ra'Niya Brown and stayed close behind key blocks, but Nicholls pulled away late to take it, 25-21.

Set 2: The Colonels used a mid-set run to gain control, and despite kills from Watkins and Brown, GSU fell 25-15.

Set 3: The Tigers hit .296 in their best set of the night, with Watkins and Brown leading the 
charge, but Nicholls held off the late push to win 25-23 and secure the match

The Tigers will return to action on September 12, taking on Abilene Christian University in Thibodaux, La.
