Late Run Lifts Texas Southern Past Tigers, 61–58

GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State battled into the final minutes, but Texas Southern pulled away late to secure a 61–58 win Thursday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

The Tigers matched Texas Southern throughout the first half ending both the first and second quarters tied at 12–12 and 31–31, respectively.

Grambling gained momentum coming out of halftime outscoring the Tigers 15–8 in the third quarter to take a 46–39 lead entering the final frame.

Texas Southern responded in the fourth quarter, limiting Grambling to 12 points while scoring 22 of its own.

The contest featured 11 ties and eight lead changes, but the Tigers were unable to convert late possessions as Texas Southern sealed the game at the free-throw line.

Shaniah Nunn led Grambling State with 13 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.

Alieghya Bartholomew added 11 points off the bench, while Monica Marsh finished with 10 points.

Jakiylah Esco chipped in nine points and five rebounds in the effort.

Grambling shot 35.7 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from three-point range.

Texas Southern capitalized on second-chance opportunities and free throws down the stretch to escape with the road win.
