JACKSON, Miss. | Grambling State battled through four quarters but came up short Saturday afternoon, falling 61–55 to Jackson State in Southwestern Athletic Conference action inside the Williams Center.
The Tigers opened the contest strong, shooting over 50 percent in the first quarter to take a 17–14 lead.
Grambling continued to compete in the second period, but Jackson State used a 23-point quarter to carry a 37–30 advantage into halftime.
The Tigers responded out of the break trimming the deficit behind defensive pressure and timely baskets to pull within two heading into the fourth quarter.
However, Jackson State regained momentum in the final frame holding the Tigers to 12 points while converting key free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
Shaniah Nunn led Grambling State with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Zaria Johnson added 11 points, while
Alisha Murray chipped in 15 points off the bench.
Monica Marsh contributed nine points and two assists in the effort.
Grambling finished the game shooting 37.0 percent from the field but struggled from beyond the arc connecting on just 2-of-15 attempts.
Jackson State capitalized at the free-throw line, going 22-of-27, which proved to be the difference in the tightly contested matchup.
