Alabama A&M Holds Off Grambling State, 54–50 in SWAC Battle

GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State opened the game with energy and battled throughout four quarters, but Alabama A&M made enough plays down the stretch to escape with a 54–50 Southwestern Athletic Conference victory Thursday evening inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

The Tigers got off to a strong start in the opening quarter, holding Alabama A&M to 15 points while taking a 17–15 advantage after one.

Momentum swung in the second period as Grambling State struggled to find a rhythm offensively, scoring 10 points in the quarter while Alabama A&M used efficient shooting to carry a 30–27 lead into halftime.

The two teams continued to trade baskets in the third quarter, with Alabama A&M narrowly outscoring Grambling State 11–12 to maintain a slim 41–39 edge heading into the final frame.

Grambling State remained within striking distance in the fourth quarter, but Alabama A&M capitalized at the free-throw line and forced key turnovers late to secure the four-point win.

Shaniah Nunn led Grambling State with a game-high 16 points and added seven rebounds.

Alieghya Bartholomew finished with 10 points, while Zaria Johnson and D'Mya Griffin chipped in seven points apiece.

Despite winning the rebounding battle, Grambling State struggled shooting the ball, finishing at 30.4 percent from the field and 17.6 percent from three-point range.

Alabama A&M was paced by Moses Davenport, who recorded 14 points and nine rebounds.

Coriah Beck added 13 points, connecting on four three-pointers, while Kaila Walker finished with 11 points as the Bulldogs improved to 9–1 in SWAC play.
