Grambling State’s Tournament Run Ends Against Alabama State

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. | Grambling State saw its postseason run come to an end Thursday evening, falling 56–50 to Alabama State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal at Gateway Center Arena.

The Lady Tigers (13-19) opened the game with strong defensive intensity edging Alabama State 15–14 after the first quarter.

Grambling State struggled to find offensive rhythm in the second period scoring just six points as Alabama State took a narrow 25–21 lead into halftime.

The Lady Tigers regrouped coming out of the break putting together an 18-point third quarter to regain momentum and keep the game within reach heading into the final frame.

Alabama State capitalized down the stretch  using key free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off Grambling State and secure the six-point victory.

Shaniah Nunn led Grambling State with a team-high 16 points while also pulling down seven rebounds.

Jakiylah Esco provided a strong effort off the bench finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Monica Marsh added eight points, while D'Mya Griffin contributed seven points for the Lady Tigers.

Alabama State was led by Caylee Simpson with 12 points, Ny'Keria Flowers added 11 points.
