BATON ROUGE, La. | The Grambling State Tigers softball team dropped both games of a Southwestern Athletic Conference doubleheader to Southern on Saturday at Lady Jaguar Field, falling 7–1 in the opener before taking a 6–5 walk-off loss in the afternoon.
In game one, Grambling State grabbed an early lead in the third inning when
Ahsunte' Specks launched a solo home run to left field.
Southern responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning and added three more in the fifth to secure the victory.
Specks finished 1-for-3 with the Tigers lone run.
Cadashia Collins,
Ziya Donaldson and
Z'Natria Evans each recorded hits.
Hailei Harrell took the loss in the circle.
In the second game, Grambling State built a 3–0 lead behind RBI efforts from
Cadashia Collins and
Ziya Donaldson along with a run that scored on an error in the fourth inning.
Southern trimmed the deficit to 3–2 in the fifth, but Collins delivered another RBI single in the seventh to extend the Tigers lead to 4–2.
The Jaguars responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game.
Specks gave Grambling State a brief 5–4 lead in the ninth inning with her second home run of the day, but Southern answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-run single to secure the 6–5 win.
Specks led the Tigers offensively in the second game going 4-for-5 with three runs scored.
Collins added two hits and two RBIs while
Jaidan Richard pitched a complete game in the circle.

Grambling State travels to Prairie View A&M for a three-game SWAC series beginning Friday, March 20 at 3 p.m. The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. in Prairie View, Texas.
