RUSTON, La. |Â The Grambling State University women's soccer team opened the 2026 season Thursday evening with a 1-0 loss to East Texas A&M at the Ruston Sports Complex.
After a scoreless opening half, East Texas A&M broke through in the 56th minute when Liberty Plasek found the back of the net at the 55:14 mark to give the Lions the lead.
Grambling State continued to pressure the ETAMU defense throughout the second half, but the Tigers were unable to find the equalizer.
Grambling State finished with seven shots, including two on goal, while East Texas A&M recorded six shots with three on target.
The Tigers earned five corner kicks compared to four for the Lions.
East Texas A&M goalkeeper recorded two saves, while Alina Arneth also finished with two saves.
Nyla Dore-Anderson was issued a yellow card in the 62nd minute, while East Texas A&M's Lornah Wasike received a caution in the 58th minute.
The loss moves Grambling State to 0-1-0 on the season, while East Texas A&M improves to 1-0-0.

The Tigers return to action Sunday, Aug. 23, traveling to Thibodaux, Louisiana, to face Nicholls. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
