GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State volleyball battled throughout Friday evening but fell to McNeese, 25-16, 25-20, 26-24, at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
The loss moved the Tigers to 2-5 on the season, while McNeese improved to 1-7.
Grambling State showed its strongest push in the third set, taking the match to extra points before McNeese closed out the contest, 26-24. The Tigers continued to compete despite dropping the opening two sets, but McNeese held on to complete the three-set victory.
Lyric Jordan led the Tigers offensively with 15 kills on 36 attacks while hitting .361 for the match. Kenya Lucas added 11 kills on 30 attacks, while Angelique Pena finished with seven kills.
Reece Cook directed the Grambling State offense with 15 assists, while Alayna Howard contributed 23 assists. Asialin Powell recorded a team-high 22 digs, helping the Tigers defensively throughout the match.
Grambling State finished the match with 44 kills and 16 errors on 130 attacks for a .215 hitting percentage. The Tigers also recorded 43 assists, three service aces, 65 digs and two total blocks.
McNeese finished with 44 kills and seven errors on 123 attacks, hitting .301 for the match. Kayla Wilson and Gabbie Maldonado led the Cowgirls with 13 kills apiece, while Ava Henry added nine kills.
The opening set featured four ties and three lead changes before McNeese pulled away for the 25-16 win. The Cowgirls then claimed the second set, 25-20, before Grambling State pushed the third set to the wire.
