Kerry Thompson Sr.

Kerry Thompson enters his second season as head strength and conditioning coach at Grambling State University. His primary responsibilities are to oversee the strength and conditioning programs for all 13 varsity sports at Grambling State University.

Thompson joins Grambling State University after serving as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Allen University. Thompson was the first strength coach in the history of Allen University, where he guided all ten sports with training since June 2018.

Thompson also currently serves on the South Carolina State Advisory Board for the National Strength and Conditioning Association and recently presented at the American Football Coaches Association's national conference on injury prevention.

Prior to his days at Allen, he worked with the University of Alabama from January '18 to June '18. Thompson also spent time as an assistant strength coach with the University of Alabama at Birmingham from August '14 to December '14 until the cancellation of the program. He returned to UAB in June 2016 when football was reinstated and remained a part of the program until December 2017, working with a staff that revived a canceled football program to an 8-4 season and the second bowl berth in school history.

In 2015, Thompson served a short stint with Samford University as a strength and conditioning coach with football. Thompson has trained athletes in the private sector for high school, collegiate, and professional sports since 2013.

Thompson earned his master's degree in kinesiology with a focus on physical education in December 2019. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in health studies from Fresno Pacific University.

Thompson is a native of Birmingham, Ala. and is certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
