Carey enters his second season as the Outside Wide Receivers coach at Grambling State University. Carey comes to Grambling with a wealth of knowledge as a former player and coach.

A native of New Orleans, La. Carey graduated from Archbishop Shaw High School in Marrero. While quarterback at Shaw he was selected as Westbank MVP from 1997-1999, All-Metro New Orleans MVP, and was rated as the #1 prospect in 1999. Carey was also named First team 5A All State twice as a junior and senior at Shaw.

He went on to play at Louisiana State University as a running back and a kick and punt returner. Carey was also a part of the 2003-2004 National Champion team.

Carey started his coaching career in 2005 at Frederick A. Douglas High School in New Orleans. In 2007 he became head coach of George Washington Carver High School in New Orleans, LA. In 2011 he landed his first college coaching opportunity at Langston University as the running back, special team coach and co-offensive coordinator. From there he coached at Lincoln University and Virginia State University.

 In 2005, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Arts and Science with a minor in Sociology from LSU.

Carey is married to Tyesha A. Carey and the couple have three children, Baleigh, Peyton, and Shyrone Jr.
