Devarus Walker enters his 11th year coaching, but his first year as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Grambling State University.

Walker comes to Grambling after spending the past 5 seasons at Stillman College (AL). While at Stillman, he help guide them to a 112-34 overall record with 5 NAIA National Tournament appearances with their farthest appearance being the Sweet 16 in 2021. He also recruited and coached several Player of the Year, All Americans and All conferences players. 

Before Stillman College, Walker spent a year at Jones College (MS) guiding them to a 29-2 overall record, a state and regional championship, along with a Sweet 16 appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament. 

Prior to Jones College, Walker, a former East Central CC (MS) basketball standout, spent four years at his alma mater as an assistant to his former coach, Maurice Bowie, and Robert Thompson. He was a member of the Warriors basketball and tennis team from 2007 to 2009.

Walker brings an outstanding track record of player development, having coached several players to Division 1 institutions such as Big South, Conference USA, SEC, Southland, SWAC, WAC, and other 4-year institutions as well.

Walker is a native of Hickory, Mississippi, and a 2007 graduate of Newton County HS. He was a standout in basketball and tennis, in which he won several state tennis championships. He received honors in both sports. 

Walker earned an associate degree in Liberal Arts at East Central CC in 2009 and a bachelor degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at William Carey in 2012, where he also played basketball and tennis. He is currently enrolled in the Sports Administration graduate program at Grambling State.

He is married to Charmayne Walker, and they have 2 sons, Hunter and Bryce.
