BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) announced the 2015 predicted order of finish and Preseason All-Conference teams for the upcoming football season at the 2015 Football Media Day. The Grambling State University Tigers were picked to finish first in the Western Division with 93 points with eight first-place votes in their return to football. Four Grambling State University student-athletes were named to the preseason All-SWAC teams this year. Last season, the Tigers offense scored 50 touchdowns, averaging 32.2 points a game and ranked fourth in the SWAC under the leadership of senior quaterback
Johnathan Williams. Senior defensive lineman Javonta Williams in the 2014 season had 12 unassisted tackles and 11 assisted tackles. Williams recorded three unassisted sacks and one assisted sack. Henry recorded 5.5-28 tackles for loss, and one quarterback hurry.
Senior
Jamison Goins in the 2014 season had 13 unassisted tackles and 26 assisted tackles. Goins recorded at total of 26 tackles, one unassisted sack and four assisted sacks with a total of three total sacks. Jamison recorded 8.5-29 tackles for loss, and one quarterback hurry. Senior linebacker
Henry Taylor in the 2014 season had nine unassisted tackles and 10 assisted tackles. Taylor recorded one unassisted sack. Henry recorded 1.5-10 tackles for loss, two kickoffs for 97 yards. All four GSU Tigers were named to the All-SWAC Second Teams.
"Johnathan is in my opinion the best player in the conference," Fobbs said. "He is highly intelligent, he knows what it takes to get things done, and he is the leader of our team. Jevonta is the leader of our defensive team, and he is also highly intelligent."
It was released during the 2015 SWAC Football Media Day after ballots were completed by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Fifty-one players were named to this year's preseason teams as a result of receiving 2014 All SWAC honors. In the event that a player was named to the first team during the post season, and does not return, the second team player for that position was elevated to the first team. Players were ranked in their position based on the number of votes received.
For the predicted order of finish in both divisions, the defending champion Alcorn State Braves totaled 95 votes including 10 first place votes to become the preseason favorite out of the East Division. Jackson State followed with 83 points, Alabama A&M gathered 66 points, with Alabama State (50) and Mississippi Valley State (31) closing the division's preseason ranking.
In the West Division, Grambling State totaled 93 points with eight first-place votes. Southern received 91 points followed by Prairie View (72), Texas Southern (40) and Arkansas Pine Bluff (34).
