GRAMBLING, La. (Men's Basketball) -- Home court advantage is just what the Grambling State University Tigers need heading into a make or break conference contest with the Jackson State UniversityTigers on Saturday at 5:30 from the Fredrick C. Hobdy Center.
???????Grambling State seeks to gain their footing in Southwestern Athletic Conference play with the next three games at home, potentially to move from the bottom tier of the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings. The Tigers are 6-1 in front their home crowd and 1-1 in conference play in the Hobdy Center.
Although GSU (7-12, 2-4 SWAC) has had success at home Coach
Shawn Walker expects more from his ball club.
"We have played well at home we have won some games," said Walker. "We have made some games very difficult that should have been easy. For us, Jackson will be a tough opponent they are one of the better teams in the conference. If we can play a clean game and cut down on the mental mistakes, I think people would say we are one of the better teams in the league," stated Walker, "We have to learn how to win, we are trying to change the culture of this program. We have to be able to make a mistake and move on to the next level but we need to minimize the type of mistakes we are making. If we clean up our quality of play we can be pretty good. We are headed down the last three games of the first nine of league play and the next three are at home. We really need to play well so we can get ourselves in the middle of this pack in this conference race," added Walker.
The G-Men let their last two games slip away losing by double digits to both Texas Southern 76-55, and 94-82 to Prairie View A&M University. Facing Texas Southern,
Nigel Ribeiro and
Ervin Mitchell chipped in 12 points apiece. Against Prairie View,
