GRAMBLING, La. (Men's Basketball) -- Turning the corner and changing the culture is Grambling State University men's basketball Head Coach Shawn Walker message to his resilient ball club. The Tigers are taking strides towards the fourth-year coach goal.

After losses in Texas, Grambling bounced back with a 15 point win over Jackson State University, 72-57. The 15-point win didn't reflect the game as Grambling State led by as many as 28 points in the second half.  The Floor General Nigel Ribeiro made JSU play at his pace dropping 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Remond Brown's quick hands snatched four steals.

Grambling State (8-12, 3-4 SWAC) has leaped four spots in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings to sit at No. 5 in league play.

The Tigers have a chance to get back to .500, against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (5-16, 4-3 SWAC) on Saturday at 5:30pm. A Tigers win would give Walker his second .500 midseason mark in his tenure.

In addition to a win on Saturday, the Tigers need to capture a win over Mississippi Valley on Monday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. Back-to-back wins would place Walker's team in a good position to peek around the corner.

Nevertheless, Grambling State has to take care of business with UAPB and MVSU to potentially move up in the SWAC rankings. UAPB slipped past Prairie View A&M University, 71-68 in double overtime. Previously, the Golden Lions dropped three in a row.  Ghiavonni Robinson and Trent Steen both average 10 points per game.

MVSU (3-17, 3-4 SWAC) stunned Texas Southern University, 103-89 in double overtime. The Delta Devils are 2-2 in their last four games, Marcus Romain is the leading scorer averaging 16.3 points. Issac Williams averages 13.4 points and Ta'Jay Henry averages 11.1 points.
