GRAMBLING, La. (Women's Basketball) – The Grambling State University Lady Tigers took on the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff on Saturday in the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. The game was close until the finish but the Lady Tigers were able to hold on for the win, 56-54.
With the win, GSU improves to 7-12, overall, and 5-3 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The Lady Golden Lion move to 6-13, overall, and 3-5 in league play.
Grambling and UAPB exchanged baskets for much of the contest and the largest lead the Lady Tigers were able to secure was seven points.
Shakyla Hill led Grambling with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Hill also led the team with four assists and four steals.
Jazmin Boyd and Jasmine Torian both accounted for 10 points. Torian and
Chantiara Lewis each had one block on the night.
GSU was 38.2 percent from the field and 56.5 percent from the free throw line.
Malaik Muhammad and Faith Ohanta finished the night with nine points for Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Destiny Brewton recorded four assists. Shawntayla Harris led the team, defensively with eight rebounds and one block.
The Lady Golden Lions were 32.1 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the three point arc, and 66.7 percent from the stripe.
The Lady Tigers will take the floor again as they face Mississippi Valley State University on Monday, Jan. 30. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. Fans can watch the game via live stream at
