Grambling State takes one of two at SWAC Round-up

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Grambling State University volleyball team took one of two matches on Saturday during the second day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Round-up, hosted by Alabama State University.
 
The Lady Tigers (11-18 overall, 5-6 SWAC) began the day with a 3-0 loss to Alabama A&M as the Lady Bulldogs completed the season sweep. Alabama A&M won the match, 25-13, 25-20, 25-17. Grambling State wrapped up the day with a 3-1 victory over Alcorn State and completed a two-match sweep of the Lady Braves. The Lady Tigers won the match with scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-19.
 
Against Alabama A&M, Chasity Nicks and Talicia Lang each had five kills, while L'Muriell Thrower added 10 assists. Defensively, Lang and Erinkeka Mollere finished with nine digs, respectively.
 
Terra Brooks paced the Lady Bulldogs with 10 kills, while Meredith Sieck registered 32 assists. Cierra Davis and Jaelin Gant each recorded nine digs.
 
Grambling State turned things around in the second match as Nicks led way with 15 kills and Diemend Richardson added 17 assists, while Thrower chipped in with 13. Mollere paced the defense with 26 digs.
 
Octavia Dixon and Mae Lewis finished with 12 and 10 kills, respectively, for the Lady Braves. Brittney Dumas recorded 22 assists, while Majesty Ferguson tallied 12.
 
Inside the Numbers
· Against Alabama A&M, Grambling State finished with 21 kills, 28 digs,  20 assists, eight total team blocks and two service aces.
· The Lady Tigers tallied 47 kills, 64 digs, 44 assists, five total team blocks and five service aces in the win over Alcorn State.
· There were 13 ties and eight lead changes in the match against Alcorn State.
