Lady Tigers win five-set thriller over UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark. | The Grambling State University volleyball team rallied for a five-set victory on Thursday night, defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 3-2, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) match at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
 
Grambling State (13-18 overall, 7-6 SWAC) dropped the first set, 25-16, but bounced back with a 25-15 second-set victory. The Lady Lions picked up a 26-24 third-set win, but again the Lady Tigers rallied and grabbed a 25-21 fourth-set victory, tying the match at 2. In the fifth set, Grambling State hit .667 in taking the final set, 15-6.
 
Kevreion Ward led the way offensively with 16 kills, while Chasity Nicks finished with a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs. L'Muriell Thrower and Diemend Richardson each added 22 assists, while Erineka Mollere registered a match-high 25 digs.
 
Kendalle Howard paced Arkansas-Pine Bluff (9-18, 8-6) with 14 kills and 14 digs. Taylor Sheppy recorded 13 kills, while Britney Sahlmann added 43 assists. Cheyenne Odgers tallied 16 digs and Jade Sanlin recorded 15 digs. 
 
Inside the Numbers
· Kevreion Ward hit .500 in the five set match with 16 kills on 30 attempts and registered just one error.
· Grambling State finished with 55 kills on 150 attempts (.200) with 25 errors.
· The Lady Tigers tallied 69 digs, 50 assists, 10 total team blocks and seven service aces.
· Kevereion Ward and Jaivenna Jones each recorded four block assists.
· Arkansas-Pine Bluff recorded 52 kills, 63 digs, 48 assists, seven total team blocks and four service aces.
· The Lady Lions finished with a .166 hitting percentage in five sets.
· Grambling State held Arkansas-Pine Bluff to .091 hitting percentage in the fifth set.
 
News and Notes
· Grambling State improved to 5-3 in five-set matches this season.
· The Lady Tigers have now won 13 matches, which is the most prior to 2011 and is 7-6 in SWAC contests.
· Grambling State sits in fifth place in the SWAC with five matches remaining (Southern (twice), Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M)
