No. 12 Grambling State set for road tilt against UAPB

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University football team continues in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play this week on the road, as the Tigers prepare to face off against the University of Arkansas- Pine Bluff on Saturday. Kickoff from Golden Lion Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m.
 
Grambling State will broadcast the game on the Grambling State Sports Radio Network. The game can be heard in Ruston (KPCH 99.3 FM) and in Monroe (KJMG 97.3 FM). The Tigers' broadcast crew of Santoria Black, Ossie Clark, Nick Harrison and Leon Thomas will call all of the action.
 
Grambling State (7-1 overall, 4-0 SWAC) enters Saturday's game with a seven-game winning streak, including a 50-24 victory over Texas Southern last weekend. Arkansas- Pine Bluff (2-5, 1-3) is riding a four-game losing streak, after falling to Southern, 47-40 last Saturday.
 
"We have to do what we do," Grambling State head coach Broderick Fobbs said. "We feel as if we do what we're capable of doing, then we'll be fine. We're big on respecting our opponent, because that's the whole key to continuing to be successful, is respecting who you play and knowing where they can hurt you and what that can do to you."
 
What to Watch For
* Grambling State is seeking its eighth consecutive win after beginning the season with a loss to Tulane
* The Tigers are looking to avoid a conference loss, which last occurred in the 2014 season when GSU lost to rival Southern, 52-45, in the Bayou Classic.
* Grambling State is also looking to avoid a loss on the road, which occurred at the season opener against Tulane.
* Arkansas-Pine Bluff is anticipating their second conference win after losing to Southern, Mississippi Valley State, and Alabama A&M.
 
Grambling State-Pine Bluff Connections
* Grambling State leads the series, 28-11-2, including winning the last three.
* Tigers' head coach Broderick Fobbs is 3-0 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
* Grambling State won the last matchup, 70-0, in 2016.
* Separated by 147 miles, this will be the 42nd meeting between the two schools.

* Grambling State moved up one spot in the latest FCS Coaches Poll from No. 13 to No. 12 and two spots in the STATS FCS Top 25 Poll to No 13.
* GSU remains in the top spot in the SBN Sports Network Black College Football Poll.

* Grambling State is ranked first in the conference in 17 categories, including winning percentage, defensive touchdowns and team passing efficiency.
* GSU's defense ranks No. 2 in the nation in team sacks and No. 3 in fumbles recovered.

* Marc Orozco continues to lead the conference in field goals per game (seventh nationally) and scoring.
* Martez Carter is ranked No. 1 in the SWAC in all-purpose yards.
* Devante Kincade leads the conference in passing efficiency, passing yards, passing yards/game, passing yards/completion and yards/pass attempt.
* De'Arius Christmas is ranked No. 2 in the SWAC (ninth nationally) in tackles for loss.
* De'Aumante Johnson continues to lead the conference in interceptions per game.
* La'Allan Clark is ranked No. 1 in the SWAC (third nationally) in sacks and No. 2 in forced fumbles.

* Devante Kincade is among 36 performers from the FCS to be selected in the 2017 midseason watch list for the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Performer of the Year Trophy.
* De'Arius Christmas has been added to the 2017 Black College Football Hall of Fame Player of the Year Watch List.
 
University of Arkansas Pine Bluff Clear Bag Policy
* The following items will be permitted into Golden Lion Stadium, but will be inspected at bag check locations prior to entry.
* Any clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag no larger than 12"x 6"x12".
* Any clear plastic freezer bag 1 gallon or smaller.
* Small purses or clutch bags no larger than 5.5 x 8.5" (approximately the size of a hand) with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the stadium in addition to one of the clear plastic bags.
(Exceptions are typically granted for medically necessary items after proper inspection)
