No. 11 Grambling State to visit Alabama State

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University football team continues its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play on the road this weekend as the Tigers ace off against Alabama State University. Kickoff from ASU Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
The game can be viewed via live stream on the SWAC Digital Network (Robert Williamson and Santoria Black) and Grambling State will broadcast on the Grambling State Sports Radio Network, which can be can be heard in Ruston (KPCH 99.3 FM) and in Monroe (KJMG 97.3FM). The Tigers' broadcast crew of Ossie Clark and Nick Harrison will call all of the action.
 
Grambling State (8-1 overall, 5-0 SWAC) enters Saturday's game with an eight-game winning streak, including a 31-26 victory over the Arkansas-Pine Bluff last Saturday. Alabama State (3-5, 3-2 SWAC) is riding a three-game winning streak after defeating Jackson State, 13-3.
 
"It's difficult to win week-in and week-out," Grambling State head coach Broderick Fobbs said. "We learn from a win and we learn from a loss as well. For us, it's about continuing to learn and be better the next week."
 
What to Watch For
* Grambling State is seeking its ninth consecutive win.
* The Tigers are looking to avoid a conference loss, which last occurred during the 2014 season in a 52-45 loss to Southern in the Bayou Classic.
* GSU is looking to avoid a loss on the road, which occurred earlier this season against Tulane.
* Alabama State is anticipating their fourth conference win after defeating Texas Southern, Alabama A&M and Jackson State.
 
Grambling State-Alabama State Connections
* Grambling State leads the series, 26-13.
* Tigers' head coach Broderick Fobbs is 2-1 against Alabama State.
* Grambling State won the last matchup, 21-0, in 2016.
* Separated by 340 miles, this will be the 40th meeting between the two schools.

* De'Arius Christmas is ranked No. 3 in the SWAC in tackles for loss.
* De'Aumante Johnson continues to lead the conference in interceptions per game.
* La'Allan Clark is ranked No. 1 in the SWAC (fourth nationally) in sacks and No. 1 in forced fumbles.

Awards and Accolades
* De'Arius Christmas has been named to the STATS FCS Buck Buchanan Award Watch List. Christmas leads the Tigers with 64 tackles, including 34 solo stops and has registered a career-high of 14 tackles this season (vs. Clark Atlanta and Alcorn State).
