Grambling Athletics Equipment Managers Recognized

GRAMBLING, La. (General) – Equipment Manager George Stubbs and the Grambling State University student equipment managers were recognized for their hard work by the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) as they were nominated for the District 4 Jeff Boss Equipment Manager of the Year Award. Once voting ended, the Tiger equipment staff was named runner up to Phil Silva and the Mississippi State University staff. GSU also was awarded the SWAC Equipment Manager of Year.

Grambling's equipment staff is the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to be nominated for the award. The list of other nominees included:

Cole Thornton, University of Louisiana-Monroe

Tony Ramirez, Tennessee Tech University

Phil Silva, Mississippi State University

"These are a huge honors for myself and my staff because we work so hard. Then, for the AEMA award, to be the first HBCU nominated for award makes it even sweeter. It also helps put Grambling on the map again for something positive," said Stubbs.

The GSU equipment staff handles all of the uniforms and playing equipment for all 15 sports sanctioned by the university.

The purpose of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) is to promote, advance, and improve the Equipment Managers Profession in all of its many phases.
