LORMAN, Miss. (Women's basketball) – Interim Head Coach Fred Murray and the Grambling State University Lady Tiger basketball team (10-12, 8-3 SWAC) have been running the table for the last four weeks and Monday night was no different. The Lady Tigers stormed into Alcorn State University and snapped up a win over the Lady Braves, 67-63.
Alcorn (7-15, 7-4 SWAC) came out in the first half with scrappy defense and were able to put Grambling on their heels. The teams exchanged baskets and the Lady Tigers committed 13 turnover. The Lady Braves were able to capitalize on GSU's mistakes and went into overtime leading, 35-32.
The Lady Tigers came out of the locker room with a sense of urgency and began to put together a second half run to victory. Grambling locked in on defense and
Monisha Neal began to score at will. Neal posted 12 points and
Shakyla Hill dished out eight assists in the second half.
Neal led the way for Grambling with 14 points. Hill posted her third double-double this season as she scored 13 points and 10 rebounds. Hill also led the team in assists with eight and in steals with six.
The Lady Tigers were 51.2 percent from the field, 20 percent from the three point arc, and 76.7 percent from the free throw stripe.
???????Alcorn State was led by Tia Sanders with 18 points and four assists. Sanders was followed by Brianna Luton with 14 points. The rebounding leader was Miracle Rushing with nine total boards for the night. Alexus Freeman and Aysha Kirkland led the team
in steals with four each. Henrietta Wells recorded the lone block for the Lady Braves.
ASU was 40.6 percent from the field, 19 percent from the three point range, and 50 percent from the line.
???????Grambling returns home to the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center on Saturday, Feb. 11 as the team faces Texas Southern University. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
