MAGNOLIA, Ark. | The Grambling State University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the Dr. Margaret Downing Invitational as the Lady Tigers defeated Texas A&M-International, 3-0, but fell to Arkansas-Monticello, 3-1, at the W.T. Watson Center.
In the openers against Texas A&M-International, Grambling State (3-10) picked up its third win of the season 25-16, 25-16, 25-20.
Chasity Nicks led the way with 10 kills and 11 digs, while
L'Muriell Thrower added 18 assists and 10 digs.
Diemend Richardson finished with 16 assists.
Erineka Mollere chipped in with 13 digs, while
Talicia Lang added 11 digs.
Leah McManus led the Dustdevils with 12 kills, while Ronnie Fountain added 25 assists. Lacy Asdourian recorded 18 digs.
In the second match of the day, Arkansas-Monticello picked up a 3-1 win with scores of 25-17, 23-25, 25-16, 31-29.
Kevreion Ward paced the Lady Tigers offense with 14 kills. Thrower and Richardson finished with 17 and 16 assists, respectively. Mollere chipped with a match-high 24 digs and Nicks added 11 digs.
Maggie Pyles led Arkansas-Monticello with 20 kills and 19 digs, Vanessa Pawlaw added 12 kills. Toryn Cox finished with a double-double of 39 assists and 11 digs. Macy Mitchell registered 16 digs and Katie Kuehl added 12.
Inside the Numbers
· In two matches, Grambling State combined for 72 kills, 121 digs, 66 assists, 14 total team blocks and eight service aces.
· Grambling State held Texas A&M-International to an .085 hitting percentage.
· The Lady Tigers hit .230 in the win and .101 in the loss.
· In two matches, there were 31 ties and 17 lead changes.
