Grambling State split pair at SWAC Round-Up

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Grambling State University volleyball team split a pair of matches as the Lady Tigers fell 3-0 to Alabama A&M,  but defeated Alcorn State, 3-2, during the second day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Round-Up on Saturday, hosted by Alabama A&M University.
 
Match 1 vs. Alabama A&M (3-0 loss)
Alabama A&M swept the match in three sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-20.
 
Kevreion Ward paced the Lady Tigers offense with 10kills, four errors and 20 total attacks for a .300 hitting percentage. L'Muriell Thrower and Sheila Borders added 18 and 13 assists, respectively. Talicia Lang led the defense with 12 digs.
 
Jaelin Gant and Terra Brooks led Alabama A&M with 11 kills each. Megan Evans dished out a match-high 37 assists, while Mine Centinoz chipped in with 14 digs.
 
Match 2 vs. Alcorn State (3-2 win)
Grambling State fell 25-11 in the opening set, but bounced back with a 25-22 victory in the second set. The Lady Tigers grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the match with a 25-16 third-set win, but Alcorn State tied the match with a 25-18 fourth-set victory. Grambling State won the match with a 15-8 fifth-set victory.
 
Chasity Nicks and Lang led the way offensively with 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Borders dished out 16 assists, while Thrower added a double-double of 15 assists and 10 digs. Erineka Mollere paced the defense with 11 digs, while Borders finished with 10.
 
Sydney Joseph paced the Alcorn State offense with 10 kills, while Barbara Cabo chipped in with a match-high 33 assists. Defensively, Fiapaipai Iosia led the way with 17 digs, while Kaylyn Latin chipped in with 11 and Mariah Wilmoth added 10.
