Lady Tigers remain perfect in five-set matches

TOUGALOO, Miss. | Chasity Nicks registered 17 kills and Kevreion Ward added 10 as the Grambling State University volleyball team won its second straight match and remained perfect on the season in five-set matches with a 3-2 victory over Tougaloo College on Wednesday.
 
Grambling State (4-15) has won three five-set matches this season, including defeating Alabama State and Mississippi Valley State in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.
 
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a two-set lead with scores of 25-11 and 25-19. Tougaloo answered with 25-23 scores to take sets three and four. Grambling State captured the match with a 16-14 five-set victory.
 
Nicks paced the Lady Tigers offense with 17 kills on 46 attacks (.217 hitting percentage), while Ward tallied a .207 hitting percentage with 10 kills on 29 attacks. L'Muriell Thrower finished with a double-double of 29 assists and 16 digs. Sheila Borders added 14 assists on offense, while on defense, Kabria Dame led the way with 17 digs. Teryn Phillips and Erineka Mollere each tallied 13 digs. Also, Talicia Lang finished with 12 digs.
 
Carolyne Edwards and Megan Besecker led the Lady Bulldogs with 17 and 14 kills, respectively, while Alexandra Jwainat tallied a match-high 38 assists. Jedaa Alcee registered a match-high 39 digs, while Edwards chipped in with 15 digs and Jwainat added 10.

> Grambling State finished with 56 kills, 32 errors, 190 attacks (.126 hitting percentage)
> Tougaloo tallied a .070 hitting percentage (47 kills, 33 errors, 199 attacks)
> The Lady Tigers recorded 107 digs, 49 assists, 11.0 total team blocks and five service aces
> The Lady Bulldogs (10-9) registered 90 digs, 42 assists, 5.0 total team blocks and three service aces
