NACOGDOCHES, Texas | Kevreion Ward registered a match-high 18 kills as the Grambling State University volleyball team took the opening set, but could not hold off Stetson in a 3-1 loss to open play on Friday at The Fredonia Hotel/Holiday Inn Express SFA Invitational at Shelton Gym.
 
The Hatters took the match, 26-28, 25-18, 25-9, 25-17.
 
Ward tallied a .191 hitting percentage in the four-set match to pace the Lady Tigers offense with 18 kills. Talicia Lang added seven kills, while L'Muriell Thrower and Sheila Borders added 26 and 12 assists, respectively. Erineka Mollere led the defense with 16 digs, while Thrower tallied 11 and Kabria Dame chipped in with 10.
 
Rebecca Ingram led Stetson with 12 kills and Hao Jin added 11. Naina Ivanova finished with a double-double of 42 assists and 15 digs. Chelcie Spence led the way defensively with 21 digs, while Charlotte Earnhart tallied 10.

> Grambling State (0-8) finished with 43 kills, 30 errors, 153 attacks (.085 hitting percentage)
> Stetson (6-2) recorded a .267 hitting percentage (56 kills, 16 errors, 150 attacks)
> The Lady Tigers tallied 17 kills, on 45 attacks, with seven errors (.222 hitting percentage) in the first set
> The Hatters hit .357 with 12 kills, 28 attacks and just two errors in the third set
> Grambling State registered 69 digs, 43 assists, 7.5 total team blocks and one service ace
> Stetson finished with 68 digs, 52 assists, 13.0 total team blocks and three service aces
