GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University women's basketball team fell 82-64 to Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday afternoon in the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

Saturday was also Senior Day and Grambling State honored five seniors before tip-off: Kailyn Gideon, Jemiah Harrison, Keturah Bingham, Madison Connally-Banks and Mylashia Yancey. With three blocks on the day, Gideon moved to number three on the all-time blocks list for Grambling women's basketball.

Grambling State (3-23, 2-13 SWAC) had two Lady Tigers reach double figures, including Justice Coleman, who notched 28 points, five rebounds and three assists, and Yancey who contributed 17 points and five boards.

Arkansas Pine-Bluff (6-20, 5-11) was led on offense by Aiya El Hassan and Noe'll Taylor who scored 17 points each, respectively. Kyeonia Harris and Jayla Atmore tallied 15 and 12 points.

Turning Point 

Arkansas-Pine Bluff took charge in the first quarter and out scored the Lady Tigers 23-9, limiting them to just 25 percent shooting. Grambling State was able to cut the deficit to just eight points as they trailed, 33-25, at the half.

The Golden Lions took the game out of arms reach in the fourth quarter, while taking their biggest lead of the night (67-47) with 8:48 remaining. The lead was capped by a Taylor free-throw.

 

Inside the Numbers

> Grambling State shot 35.4 percent (23-of-65) from the floor and 83.3percent (15-of-18) from the charity stripe

> Arkansas-Pine Bluff was 32-of-69 (46.4 percent) from the field and 11-of-20 (55 percent) from the foul line

> The Lady Tigers registered 33 rebounds, including 22 on the defensive glass

> The Golden Lions pulled down 42 rebounds, with 14 coming on the offensive end

> GSU finished with 34 points in the paint, 34 bench points, 10  second-chance points and 20 fast break points

> UAPB recorded 42 points in the paint, 17 bench points, 16 second-chance points and 12 fast break points

Grambling State returns to action on Monday, March 2 at the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center to take on SWAC rival Mississippi Valley State. Tip-off for the final home game of the regular season is set for 5:30 p.m. in Grambling.
