HOUSTON, Texas | The Grambling State University women's volleyball team got back into the win column on Monday evening with a 3-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over Texas Southern at the H&PE Arena.
Grambling State (7-11 overall, 4-4 SWAC) won the match, 25-17, 17-25, 25-23, 25-19.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- GSU got on the board first scoring with a kill from
Rayven McKenzie.
- Grambling State hit the gas, keeping a good distance between them and Texas Southern, as they went on to claim the first set 25-17.
- GSU picked up 14 kills in the frame.
- The Black and Gold took an early lead again to begin the second set before an error tied the score at four
- GSU tied the contest four more times before Texas Southern got away with set two, 25-17.
- GSU began set three, 5-0, with three kills and two aces.
- Texas Southern came back to tie the score at 18 with a kill.
- It wasn't enough to fight off Grambling State as GSU sealed set three with another kill by
Rayven McKenzie, 25-23.
- GSU finished Texas Southern off, 25-19, in the fourth set to secure the victory.

- Rayvean McKenzie paced Grambling State's attack with 16 digs, 12 kills and one ace

- Kalee Caldwell added a 31 assists and 14 digs
- Grambling State tallied 77 digs and 46 kills

Jada Taylor led the Lady Tigers with 19 digs
- GSU had five service aces compared to three for Texas Southern
- TSU finished the match with a .108 hitting percentage, with 39 kills and 71 digs
- Danielle Lilley led TSU with 18 digs, 10 kills and one ace
- Aeris Ramsey picked up 16 assists for Texas Southern

Grambling State will take a week off before returning home to play host to Louisiana Tech on Tuesday, Oct. 26. First serve is set for 6 p.m. from the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
