MERIDIAN, Miss. |The Grambling State University women's soccer team couldn't overcome an early goal from Alabama A&M, falling 1-0 in a pivotal Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest on Wednesday afternoon at C.D. Smith Field on the campus of Meridian Community College.
The game was a makeup contest originally scheduled for Oct. 17 in Grambling, La.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 12
th minute, GSU goalkeeper
Britt Verhees made a phenomenal save, but AAMU's Makayla Rushing gathered her own rebound, placing a shot just past Verhees to claim a quick 1-0 lead.
- The Lady Tigers had multiple chances to tie the game before halftime, but couldn't breakthrough.
- In the second half, Grambling State cranked the pressure up, putting up 15 shots, but forcing the Bulldogs' Jodi Medina to make numerous saves.
- The Lady Tigers continued to play their style of smothering defense, limiting AAMU to just five shots five shots on the afternoon.
