LUBBOCK, Texas | Danya Kingsby poured in a team-high 22 points, but it wasn't enough as the Grambling State University men's basketball team fell, 88-62, to Texas Tech on Friday night at the United Supermarkets Arena.
The Tigers (0-2) trailed, 44-31, at the break and closed the gap to seven points, 48-41, with 13 minutes remaining, but could not get any closer.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Texas Tech (2-0) raced out to an 11-5 lead after a 3-pointer by Adonis Armis with 16:42 left in the opening half
- A 
Shawndarius Cowart layup cut the deficit to 12-10 with 14:42 remaining in the first
- The Red Raiders used a 13-4 run over the next four minutes to extend the advantage to 25-14 after a bucket by Kevin McCullar with 10:57 left
- The Tigers kept hanging around and cut the margin to 31-25 after a 3-pointer by 
Danya Kingsby with just under five minutes remaining
- A free throw by McCullar gave the Red Raiders a 44-31 lead with three seconds left as Texas Tech took the 13-point lead into the break
- A 3-pointer by Davion Warren just two minutes into the second half pushed the lead to 47-34
- Back came Grambling State, cutting the double-digit deficit to 48-39 after a free throw by Kingsby with 15:02 remaining
- The Tigers got a bucket by 
Malik Lamin with 13:39 left, which closed the gap to 48-41, but Texas Tech used an 11-0 run over the next three minutes to extend the advantage to 59-41
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Grambling State shot 47.6 percent (20-of-42) from the floor and 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from beyond the arc
- The Tigers were 13-of-20 (65 percent) from the free-throw line
- 
Danya Kingsby played 30 minutes and was 7-for-9 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from the 3-point line to finish with a season-high 22 points

Shawndarius Cowart added nine points, on 3-for-4 shooting, including 2-for-2 from behind the 3-point line, and added five rebounds, two assists and one steal
- Grambling State finished with 16 points in the point, 12 bench points off 13 Texas Tech turnovers, five fastbreak points and three second-chance points
- Texas Tech shot 28-of-61 from the floor (45.9 percent) and 22-of-29 (75.9 percent) from the free-throw line
- Kevin McCullar registered a career-high 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds, along with three assists, one block and one steal
- Davion Warren added 19 points and six boards
- Bryson Williams recorded 16 points and nine rebounds
- The Red Raiders finished with 30 points in the paint, 21 second-chance points, 23 points off 24 Grambling State turnovers, 16 bench points and six fastbreak pionts
