Lady Tigers Pick Up First Win Against Centenary

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University women's volleyball team earned its first victory of the season with a 3-1 triumph over Centenary College on Tuesday evening at the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
 
How It Happened
- GSU (1-3) took an early lead, claiming the first set 25-21.
- The Lady Tigers picked up 12 kills with six attacking errors in the frame.
- Centenary (3-6) also finished the first set with 12 kills with eight errors.
- In the second set, Centenary bounced back knotting the contest at 1-1 with a 25-22 win.
- The Ladies took advantage of 11 GSU errors.
- Trailing 18-12 in the third set, the Lady Tigers outscored Centenary 13-3 the rest of the way, taking the frame 25-21.
- GSU tallied 15 kills with seven errors while Centenary committed eight errors with 12 kills.
- GSU finished Centenary off 25-23 in the fourth set to secure the victory.
- The final frame was the most efficient for the Lady Tigers, as they posted a hitting percentage of .200 with 17 kills and eight errors.
 
Inside the Numbers
- Rayvean McKenzie paced the Lady Tigers attack with 12 kills and 14 digs
- GSU's Tamaira Johson and Semira Fields also put on strong performances racking up 11 kills apiece
- Kalee Caldwell added a team-high 27 assists for the Lady Tigers
- As a team, GSU tallied 56 kills with 51 digs with a hitting percentage of .158
- Defensively, Jada Taylor led the Lady Tigers with 15 digs
- GSU had two service aces compared to one for Centenary
- Centenary finished the match with a .148 hitting percentage, with 46 kills and 44 digs
- Jaylin St. Martin led the Centenary with 10 digs
- Jaycie Proctor picked up 14 digs for Centenary
