GRAMBLING, La. | In dominating fashion, the Grambling State University women's soccer team powered past Mississippi Valley State 7-0 on Friday afternoon at the GSU Soccer Complex on Friday afternoon.
The win improves GSU to 7-7-2 overall, 4-1-2 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grambling State got off to a sluggish start against MVSU (0-10, 0-5), but turned up the heat near the end of the first half when Ariyanna Buggs scored on a well placed shot, giving the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute.
- In the second half, Imogen Fowler received a pass from Beatriz Kretteis and deposited in the back of the goal, growing the lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute.
- In the 57th minute, Aria Whitney cracked the scoring column with a goal, stretching GSU's advantage to 3-0.
- The rout was officially on in the 58th minute, when Kretteis beat MVSU's goalkeeper putting the Lady Tigers on top 4-0.
- Laila Loring made her opportunity count in the 67th minute, striking the net to stretch the lead to 5-0.
- Freshman Karlyn Judge scored her fifth goal of the season in the 71st minute. Lizbeth Augero wrapped up the scoring barrage for GSU with a score in the 88th minute.
