ITTA BENA, Miss.| The Grambling State University women's basketball team used a strong second half to pull away from Mississippi Valley State, 71-57, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Saturday evening at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.
Leah Morrow led the GSU (5-12 overall, 4-2 SWAC) with 17 points, six rebounds and three steals. Amanda Blake scored 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Jurnee McLaurin recorded 10 points, three rebounds and one assist.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Â Grambling State took a 16-10 advantage heading into the second quarter.
- Â MVSU tied the game with 26-26 after a jumper by Anjanae Mueck with 2:47 remaining before the half.
- Â The Lady Tigers pushed the lead to 30-26 after a layup by Colbi Maples with under 40 seconds remaining before halftime.
- Â The run didn't stop there with the Lady Tigers as Amanda Blake gave the tigers a 49-40 advantage before heading into the final quarter.
- Â The Devilettes closed the gap to seven points (53-46) with 7:25 remaining in the game but never got any closer as the Lady Tigers got the 71-57 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERSÂ
- Grambling State shot 42.1percent (24-of-57) from the field and 69 percent (20-of-29) from the free-throw line.
- The Lady Tigers finished with 38 points in the paint, 18 points off 21 MVSU turnovers, 18 bench points, twelve second-chance points and thirteen fast break points.
- MVSU shot 41.5 percent (22-of-53) from the field and 50 percent (11-of-22) from the free-throw line.
- Â Krisen Hunt recorded 13 points and three rebounds for the Devilettes.
- Â The Devilettes recorded 16 bench points, 40 points in the paint, 11 second-chance points, twelve points off 15 Grambling State turnovers and five fast break points.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Monday against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Tip-off against the Golden Lions is set for 5 p.m. at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
