Dozier Scores Career-High 34 Points, GSU Falls to Washington State

GRAMBLING, La. | Junior guard Kintavious Dozier put on a show, scoring a career-high 34 points in Grambling State's 83-65 road loss to Washington State on Sunday night at Beasley Coliseum. 
 
Dozier connected on 10-of-16 shots from the field, including burying 4-of-9 from 3-point range. He also converted 10-of-11 free throws. The Lannett, Ala. native added two rebounds and assist and a steal to his tally.
 
Jalen Johnson also scored in double-digits for the Tigers, putting up 13 points with four boards and a steal. 
 
As a team, Grambling State (2-7) shot 45.7 percent from floor, going 21-of-46. The Tigers were 5-of-12 from 3-point range and 18-of-26 from the charity stripe. 
 
After a rough opening six minutes that saw GSU fall behind 15-1, the Tigers settled in a gave WSU (8-1) a challenge.  
 
With Washington State leading 15-3, Dozier began to warm up and bring the Tigers within single digits. He splashed his first 3-pointer of the game to make it 15-6 with 12:41 to go in the half. Following a three by WSU, Dozier responded with back-to-back buckets from behind the arc, trimming the Cougar's lead to 18-12.
 
WSU, however, was able to grow its lead back to double-digits and carried a 42-30 lead into halftime. 
 
In the second half, Washington State quickly stretched its lead to 19 points, 51-32, with 15:53 to play. Grambling would continue to battle, eventually trimming WSU's advantage back down to 11 on a pair of free throws by Mikale Stevenson with 6:29 remaining.
 
The Cougars put the Tigers away for good down the stretch, building its largest lead of the game, 82-61, with 48 second to go. 
 
Washington State's Jaylen Wells led four Cougars into double figures. He added four rebound and two assists to his stat line. 
 
The Cougars connected on 56.4 percent of its shots (31-of-55). WSU was 9-of-18 from behind the arc and 12-of-19 from the free throw line.

Grambling State is gearing up for another non-conference matchup, this time a road tilt at Drake on Dec. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
