JACKSON, MS. | The Grambling State University women's soccer team narrowly lost 4-5 to Jackson State University Sunday afternoon at the JSU Soccer Field.
The game started on a challenging note for Grambling State (5-8-3 overall, 3-2-0 SWAC), as they conceded three goals on the first three shots from Jackson State.
Forward
Jayla Gage responded just two minutes later, scoring to tie the game 1-1. Jackson State then surged ahead with two more goals, bringing the score to 3-1. Forward
Alana Aiken pulled one back for Grambling State, making it 3-2 before halftime.
In the second half, Grambling continued their momentum with two goals from
Jayla Gage, completing her hat trick and giving Grambling a 4-3 lead.
The lead was short-lived as Jackson State equalized with a rebound goal off a save in front of the net. The game ended in a dramatic finish when a late penalty kick was awarded to Jackson State, sealing the 5-4 victory.
Jackson State improved to 2-7-4 and 2-1-3 in the SWAC.
