Grambling State Drops Match Against Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, LA. | Grambling State faced a tough challenge against Tulane, ultimately falling 89-65 despite a spirited effort from the Tigers. The game started evenly, but Tulane pulled away with a dominant performance in the second half, capitalizing on strong shooting and efficient ball movement.

For Grambling, Douthshine Prien led the offense with 15 points on an impressive 6-9 shooting, adding 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Lydia Freeman contributed a six points with 10 rebounds, showcasing her presence in the paint.

Grambling faced difficulty converting from beyond the arc, shooting only 10.5% (2-19) from three-point range. This cold shooting proved costly against a Tulane team that hit 37% of their three-point attempts. The Tigers overall field goal percentage stood at 32.9%, hindered by a tough defensive effort from Tulane.

Tulane's offense was driven by Amira Mabry, who was perfect from the field, scoring 19 points on 7-7 shooting. She was supported by Sherese Pittman and Victoria Keenan, who scored 18 points each. The Green Wave's balanced attack featured efficient shooting, especially in the second half where they hit 39.5% of their shots.

The Tigers won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding Tulane 57-43. Despite this advantage, Tulane's efficient scoring and strong execution allowed them to build a 25-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss, Grambling showed resilience with a 8-0 run in the first quarter that kept the game tied at 17-17 and multiple runs in the second half. However, Tulane's largest run, a 10-0 surge, created a gap that Grambling couldn't bridge. The Tigers struggled to maintain their pace in the final minutes, as Tulane's defensive pressure led to 31 turnovers.

The Tigers stand at 2-2 on the season after the loss.
