Grambling State Volleyball Powers Past Alabama A&M

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University women's volleyball team secured a 3-1 victory over Alabama A&M in a hard-fought match on Sunday afternoon at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. The win extended Grambling's record to 4-8 overall and 1-0 in SWAC play, while Alabama A&M dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-1 in conference.
 
The Tigers' defensive strength and balanced offensive performance helped them to bounce back after a tight second-set loss, and they dominated the final two sets to seal the match.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
Grambling came out strong in the first set, winning 25-12. Alabama A&M responded with a narrow 25-23 win in the second set, but the Tigers took control in the final two sets, 25-22 and 25-21. The Tigers superior blocking and consistent attacking kept them in front during the decisive moments of the match.
 
KEY PERFORMANCE BY LAURYN BOURNE
Lauryn Bourne played a pivotal role, recording 11 kills and 20 digs in the win. Notably, she reached a milestone of 1,000 career digs—868 of those accumulated before joining Grambling, and 132 digs since she started playing for the Tigers. Bourne's all-around effort and leadership on the court were crucial in both offense and defense.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
- Essence Allen led Grambling with 19 kills, contributing 18 digs and 2 service aces.  
- Lauryn Bourne posted 11 kills and 20 digs, celebrating her 1,000th career dig.  
- Kai Williams added 8 kills and 6 block assists, playing a key role in Grambling's defense at the net.  
- Kennya Sykes recorded 9 kills with an impressive .467 hitting percentage, along with 7 block assists.  
- Madison Reagins contributed 4 kills and 4 block assists, providing additional defensive support.  
- Grambling ended with a .187 hitting percentage, while Alabama A&M hit .059 on 170 total attacks.
