SHREVEPORT, La. | Grambling State women's soccer opened its 2025 campaign with a hard-fought 1–1 draw against LSU Shreveport on Friday morning at The Swamp.
The Tigers struck first in the 32nd minute when a Lady Pilots defender inadvertently redirected the ball into her own net off a shot from
Alana Aiken.
The play gave Grambling State a 1–0 advantage, which they carried into the halftime break.
Grambling's defensive unit, anchored by Kaylen Jakens and
Taya Sands, held LSU Shreveport to four first-half shots.

Kaia Bace made two saves in her 45 minutes of action.
LSU Shreveport quickly leveled the score just 73 seconds into the second half.
Jade Derks found the back of the net for the Lady Pilots, capitalizing on an early attack to make it 1–1.
Grambling State (0–0–1) generated its best second-half chances through set pieces, recording four corner kicks on the day.
Mariyah Bumgarner's 76th-minute strike forced a diving save from LSUS keeper Elena Lopez, who finished with two saves.

The match also featured a physical edge, with three yellow cards issued two to Grambling State (Bryant 21', Aiken 66') and one to LSU Shreveport (Medine 70').
