THIBODAUX, La. | The Grambling State University volleyball team dropped a three-set match to Abilene Christian on Friday afternoon inside the David R. Stopher Gymnasium, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-18).
The Lady Tigers (0-5) opened the match strong, hitting .364 in the first set with 11 kills on 22 attempts.
Abilene Christian (3-6) held control across the match, finishing with a .293 team hitting percentage.
Kenya Lucas led Grambling with seven kills and three blocks, while
Avri Solik-Fifarek followed with four kills.
Ra'Niya Brown added three kills and a team-high four blocks.
Alayna Howard paced the offense with 18 assists to go along with five digs and an ace, and
Leisey Keli'i anchored the defense with 10 digs.
Denver Watkins chipped in two aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Grambling started sharp, hitting .364 behind kills from Lucas, Brown, and Solik-Fifarek. ACU used a late surge, powered by Hannah Gonzalez, to close out the set 25-17.
Set 2: The Tigers struggled offensively, tallying five kills, while the Wildcats capitalized on a mid-set run to extend their lead, taking the frame 25-17.
Set 3: GSU battled behind Lucas and Brown, but ACU held momentum and secured the match with a 25-18 win.
