NEW ORLEANS, La. | The Grambling State University volleyball team fell in straight sets to the University of New Orleans on Sunday afternoon inside the Human Performance Center, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-13).
The Lady Tigers (0-7) battled closely in the opening set, but New Orleans (5-5) used a late surge to close out the frame and carried momentum the rest of the way.
Grambling finished with 30 kills on 112 swings for a .071 hitting percentage, while the Privateers registered 38 kills with a .232 clip.
Ra'Niya Brown and
Kenya Lucas paced Grambling's attack with eight kills each.
Rihianna Brown added four kills and two blocks.
Alayna Howard lead the offense with 27 assists to go along with two blocks, while
Leisey Keli'i anchored the back row with a match-high 13 digs.
Amaris Marks chipped in 11 digs and an ace.
UNO was led by Courtney Roundtree with 12 kills and four blocks, while Defne Eciroglu tallied with 33 assists and 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Grambling came out strong, building leads of 16-12 and 20-17 behind kills from Lucas and
Rihianna Brown. UNO responded with an 8-1 run down the stretch to take the set 25-21.
Set 2: The Lady Tigers managed just seven kills as the Privateers took control midway through the frame and pulled away, 25-18.
Set 3: The University of New Orleans sealed the match in the third set posting a .313 hitting percentage while holding Grambling to .000 (11 kills, 11 errors), to claim a 25-13 victory.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Friday, Sept. 19, traveling to Hattiesburg, Miss., to take on the University of Southern Mississippi at 6 p.m.
