MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Grambling State closed out the regular season on a high note Thursday evening, earning a 68–50 victory over Alabama State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
The Tigers (13-18, 10-8 SWAC) set the tone early jumping out to a strong start and never looking back.
Grambling State opened the game with a 19-point first quarter and followed with a 17-point second quarter to take a 36–17 lead into halftime.
Alabama State (15-14, 12-6 SWAC) mounted its best push in the third quarter, scoring 25 points to cut into the deficit.
However, Grambling State responded in the final period outscoring the Hornets 18–8 to secure the convincing road win.
Alieghya Bartholomew led the Tigers with 20 points, knocking down six three-pointers and shooting 6-of-11 from the field.
Douthshine Prien and
Zaria Johnson each added 11 points, while
Shaniah Nunn contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.
Grambling State forced 28 Alabama State turnovers and converted those opportunities into 23 points.
The Tigers finished the night shooting 37.7 percent from the field and connected on nine three-pointers.
