Grambling State Volleyball Falls to Louisiana Tech in Four Sets

RUSTON, La. | Grambling State volleyball battled Louisiana Tech through four competitive sets Thursday night before falling to the Bulldogs, 3-1, at the Thomas Assembly Center.

The Tigers dropped the opening set, 25-21, before rallying to take the second set, 26-24. Louisiana Tech responded by taking the third set, 25-12, and closed out the match with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.

Grambling State moved to 2-4 on the season, while Louisiana Tech improved to 5-3.

The Tigers were led offensively by Amaris Marks, who recorded a team-high 13 kills on 39 attacks. Marks also added four digs and finished with 13 points.

Lyric Jordan contributed 11 kills on 33 attacks while hitting .303 for the match. Jordan also recorded five digs, three block assists and finished with 12.5 points.

Kenya Lucas added eight kills, while Jaida Gray finished with five kills. Rihianna Brown contributed three kills and one service ace.

GSU setter Reece Cook directed the Tigers' attack with 16 assists and added 18 digs. Alayna Howard recorded 14 assists and seven digs, while Asialin Powell added 18 digs.

The Tigers finished with 42 kills on 160 attacks and hit .125 as a team. Grambling State also recorded 38 assists, four service aces, 12 block assists and 72 digs.

Louisiana Tech finished with 51 kills on 152 attacks and hit .191 for the match.

GSU opened the night by taking an early lead in the first set before Louisiana Tech rallied to claim the frame, 25-21. The Tigers answered in the second set, battling through 10 tie scores and four lead changes before securing a 26-24 victory.

Grambling State's second-set effort was its strongest offensive showing of the night. The Tigers recorded 16 kills on 43 attacks and hit .279 in the frame.

Louisiana Tech regained control in the third set, hitting .282 while posting 15 kills to take the set, 25-12.

The Tigers fought to extend the match in the fourth set, but the Bulldogs closed out the frame, 25-18, to secure the 3-1 victory.

Louisiana Tech was led by Tyra McKinnie and Taylor Woods, who recorded 13 and 14 kills, respectively. The Bulldogs also received 47 assists and 86 digs as a team.
