FORT WORTH, Texas | Grambling State's battled fiercely, but fell 63-7 to TCU on Saturday night at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
GSU (2-1) got its only points on a second-quarter touchdown pass but was outgained 676-210 as TCU (1-1) scored on eight of its nine possessions in front of 37,600 fans.
Reginald Johnson shined in his second start of the season, completing 14 of 20 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers. Jordan Bride caught four passes for 79 yards, including a 62-yard gain that set up Grambling State's touchdown, and Byron Eaton Jr. hauled in a 7-yard scoring strike from Johnson with 4:25 left in the second quarter, capping an eight-play, 91-yard drive.
That score pulled Grambling State within 21-7, but TCU answered before halftime with a 1-yard touchdown run from Joe Pitchford and pulled away from there.
TCU quarterback Jaden Craig threw for 391 yards and four touchdowns, connecting with Kari Ashley twice for scores and adding touchdown passes to Ka'Morreun Pimpton and Jeremy Scott. TCU also got touchdown runs from Major Everhart, Jon Denman and Amante Martin, and cornerback Teon Parks returned an interception 67 yards for a score in the fourth quarter.
Grambling State's defense was led by Louis Foster, who finished with seven tackles. Jaydon Scott recorded the Tigers' only sack. Grambling State's best early scoring chance ended when Diego Alfaro's 20-yard field goal attempt was blocked in the first quarter.
The Tigers struggled to establish the run, finishing with 20 net rushing yards on 28 carries, and converted just 1 of 14 third-down attempts. Grambling State also lost a fumble and had a punt blocked in the fourth quarter.
