Grambling State Wins Thriller at Nicholls

THIBODAUX, La. | Grambling State volleyball earned a hard-fought five-set victory over Nicholls on Wednesdayevening, 25-27, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-12, at David R. Stopher Gymnasium.

The win improved the Tigers to 3-6 overall, while Nicholls fell to 6-5.
 
Grambling State showed its resilience after dropping the opening two sets. The Tigers responded with a dominant 25-16third-set win, then evened the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth. Grambling closed the comeback in the decidingset, prevailing 15-12 to secure the road win.

Lyric Jordan paced Grambling State offensively with 18 kills on 49 attempts, hitting .286. Kenya Lucas added 11 kills anda team-high six total blocks, while Rihianna Brown delivered nine kills on 13 attempts for a match-best .615 hitting percentage. Angelique Pena chipped in eight kills while hitting .368.

Reece Cook directed the offense with 22 assists, while Alayna Howard added 29 assists. Asialin Powell led the Tigers defensively with 24 digs and also served a team-high three aces. Howard contributed nine digs, and Cook added 10.

Grambling State finished the match with 61 kills and 16 errors on 162 attacks for a .278 hitting percentage. The Tigers recorded 60 assists, five service aces, 75 digs and 20 total blocks.

Nicholls totaled 70 kills, but Grambling State limited the Colonels to a .187 hitting percentage by forcing 35 attacking errors. Kera Arrington led Nicholls with 21 kills, while Zahahrah Edwards-Wyllie added 15. Jenna Cicherski recorded 21 assists and Isabella Padilla dished out 39.

The opening two sets were tightly contested, with Nicholls taking the first 27-25 before edging the Tigers 25-22 in thesecond. Grambling State turned the momentum after intermission, hitting .300 in the third set and holding Nicholls to a .000 attacking percentage. The Tigers then hit .286 in the fourth and .300 in the decisive fifth set to complete the reverse sweep.
