Box Score 2 GRAMBLING, Louisiana (February 23rd, 2013) – It was a tough day for the Lady Tiger Softball team in the Central Arkansas Tournament as they lost to Ball State by the score of 20-3 in game one and 13-4 against Northern Iowa in game two.
In game one the Lady Tigers were in the game early and trailed only 4-1. A series of errors and timely hitting by Ball State in the last three innings was the deciding factor for Grambling. “We played well early, but between the cold conditions and then long innings late it wore us down”, said Head Coach
Wilbert Early. “We have to adjust and make sure that we hit the ball better. We had base runners and grounded out several times to leave runners stranded.”
Leading the way in game one was
Hilary Velasquez, who went two for three on the afternoon and had three RBI's. “Hilary hit the ball well and had a base clearing triple during the game,” said Coach Early. “We need more of that from everyone on the team.”
In game two the Lady Tigers lost a tough game to Northern Iowa by the score of 13-4. The Lad Tigers had a big fourth inning, but it was not enough as the temperatures continued to drop and the bats of Northern Iowa heated up. “Our pitching wore down and the temperature continued to drop,” said Coach Early. “The team just has to learn to continue to fight through adversity.”
The Lady Tiger Softball team will be back on the field this evening as they will take on the host team in Central Arkansas. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. Fans can watch the game by going to
