Grambling, La. --- The Grambling State University Lady Tigers' Softball team's home season opener against the Texas College Steers was one for the books. In game one of the double-header GSU completed the game in 4.5 innings with an 11-0 decision.

Morgan Butler reached first on a fielder's choice, advanced to second on an error by TC's pitcher, and began scoring for the Lady Tigers with two RBIs. Brianna Maiden flew out to centerfield on a sacrifice bringing in Angela Perez. With a 3-0 lead GSU retired to the outfield to defend. Perez led the Lady Tiger's defensive attack from the pitcher's mound.

The Steers couldn't get anything going in the top of the second inning, with three up and three down. The bottom of the second was more fun for Grambling State as they scored five runs, making the score 8-0.

In the third inning Texas College was unable to gain any momentum, remaining scoreless-only reaching base because of a shortstop error (with one out). Perez shut the top of the inning down quickly with two consecutive strikeouts. In the bottom of the third GSU's Jasmyn Dunning homered over the left field wall scoring 3 RBIs. Scoring ended there for the Lady Tigers as they steered clear of any obstacles and secured their victory on the mercy rule.

Game two of the doubleheader held better news for the Steers as they were able to clamor onto the board. GSU began scoring in the bottom of the first and never glanced back. Game two ended in 4.5 innings as well.

The Lady Tiger's scored in every inning they went up to bat. The Steers returned game one's homer with one of their own in the top of the fifth. Despite the rally from Texas College, GSU snagged a 12-4 victory.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to travel to Ruston, La. to take on Louisiana Tech on Wednesday, February 19th; first pitch is at 6:00 p.m.
