GRAMBLING, La. (Softball) – With inclement weather on the horizon, Coach
Wilbert Early and the Grambling State University softball team will host Jackson State University in a three game home series over the weekend. Sunday, March 26 will feature a double header beginning at 1 p.m. and Monday, March 27 will be a single game at 1 p.m.
The Lady Tigers have slowly built up steam as the season goes on. The team's last bout on the diamond was a double header against Jarvis Chrisitan University on Tuesday. GSU swept the Lady Bulldogs in both games, five innings each. Leading the batters for the Lady Tigers are
Tia Coleman and
Allye Hartley. Currently, Coleman has a .486 batting average and Hartley has racked up 26 hits.
Hailey Haynes keeps Lady Tigers crossing home plate with 20 runs batted in (RBI).
Kenyshae Beasley has the quickest feet on the team with 21 stolen bases this season.
GSU's pitchers are led by
Caitlin McDowell. Dowell (8-9) has a 5.98 earned run average and 55 strike outs.
JSU is led by Victoria Nelson in hitting as she has a .408 batting average and a team high 31 hits. Denisha Knight has the most RBI with 20. Symone Williams heads up the pitchers for Jackson State with a 7.00 ERA. Sybil Lozano has the most strike outs with 32 strike outs.
