HOUSTON, Tex. – The Grambling Lady Tigers softball team (12-31, 2-14 SWAC) fell 11-1 in the SWAC series opener against Texas Southern University (20-15, 11-5 SWAC) on Friday afternoon at Memorial Park.
TSU took advantage of multiple errors by Grambling, only needing seven hits to score their runs. The difference was a big third inning by TSU, who scored seven runs on four hits to push its lead from 4-0 to 11-0.
Grambling's lone run came via a solo homerun to left-center by
Tia Coleman in the top of the fourth inning. Designated player
Kendalyn Arceneaux led the way for the Lady Tigers with two hits on the afternoon.
Caitlin McDowell suffered the loss for GSU in only two and two-thirds innings of work.
Alexus Brown pitched in one and a third innings in relief and allowed one run.
The teams conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday that begins at 12 p.m.
