Box Score Itta Bena, Ms. – The Grambling State University women's basketball team (9-18, 6-10) despite a tough first half rallies back against Mississippi Valley State University (4-21, 2-12) but lost a tough one Monday night at the Leflore County Civic Center.
In the first half, the Lady Tigers could not seem to find the bottom of the basket, as they dug a 23 point hole early in the first half. The Lady Tigers was 2 for 10 in the first half of play shooting 37.0 from the floor. Mississippi Valley was on a roll and didn't look back as they went on a 25-3 run.
Yosha Watson later finds herself putting together a string of shots that put the Lady Tigers within 12 points closing the first half 36-24.
In the second half, the Lady Tigers shooting streak comes together as they compile a series of shots to come within 3 points with 15:57 left to play in the game. With 5:14 left to play in the game Grambling applies pressure to turn their 13 point deficit into a maintainable game at the 1:01mark simply trailing by 4 points. Mississippi Valley stepped up their defense and held the Lady Tigers scoreless within the final seconds to seal the deal.
Yosha Watson led Grambling with 18 points, three assist, and four rebounds.
Dierra Ely contributed 11 points, three steals, and eight rebounds, followed by Shakiery McClendon adding 10 points, one assist, one steal, and three rebounds.
Mississippi Valley State University's A'Shanti Weathers went 6 of 8 from the floor scoring 18 points four rebounds, and two assist. The Devilettes had Ashley Beals with 12 points, and Christina Reed chipping in 11 points also scoring in double digits for Mississippi Valley.
